Owner and Interior Designer, Barbara Messer is an Iowa City native. After living in Florida for close to five years, she came back in ’94 and currently lives in Solon with her husband Keith and their two girls; 13 year old Brogan and ten year old Brianne. Barbara has been in the industry for more than 17 years and enjoys all aspects of design. By listening carefully to her clients and offering the best solutions to meet their individual needs and budgets, Barbara and her staff have earned a reputation for creating truly functional kitchens, designed to match the way clients’ lives work today.

In addition to time spent building her business and caring for family, Barbara volunteers for many organizations. She is active with her church and the children’s programs in her church, she has been a co-leader in a very active girl scout troop for over seven years and attends almost every sport and school event for her children. Barbara is very active with the Home Builders Associations. She has been a Parade of Homes Committee member for the past seven years, and is Vice President. She will become president in the year 2007. She was also the Chair of the Remodelors Council for the Greater Iowa City Homebuilders Association, Women’s Council member and always helps in any way when it concerns her area Homebuilders Association in addition to attending the HBA evening meetings. Additional organizations Barbara has volunteered time with include Habitat for Humanity, Pilot Club, Solon Women’s Club and ICBC.

Barbara has a deep belief in honesty, work ethics, patronizing local businesses and charities, and being the best person you can be at all times.These philosophies are carried over to the staff and customers reap the benefits.

Julie Vice
Office Manager

Julie is KBD's office manager and stays very busy running many aspects of the showroom. Julie Vice grew up in Iowa City and now lives in Tiffin with her husband John and three children. They have a son Tre who is 7 years old and two year old twin girls, Karlee and Kylee.

Julie has been employed with KBD for 8 years and enjoys her job immensely. If you have questions concerning billing, procedures, deliveries or just about anything, Julie is the person to call.

Kristin Peiffer
Office Assistant

Kristin Peiffer is an Interior Designer and Office Assistant at KBD. She lives in Kalona, with her husband Ben and dog Hemi. She graduated from Kirkwood with an Associates Degree in Interior Design and has been working in the design field for the past five years. Kristin takes great pride in her committment to customer satisfaction while utilizing her interior design skills.

Brian Jennings

Brian is a native of Iowa City and has been with KBD since 1996. He is the shipping and receiving manager for the company. Brian is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to make the customers experience a good one.

Chris was born in Hills and currently resides in Solon. Chris's main responsibility is in shipping and receiving but also helps with showroom maintenance. Chris is always happy to make your experience a pleasant one.

Kathy Minnis
Sales & Interior Designer

Kathy was raised in Lowden, Iowa and now lives in Lisbon with her 3 children, Heather, 21, Krista, 20, and Bobby, 18. She received her Associates Degree in Interior Design from Kirkwood Community College in 1995, and has been designing kitchens in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area for 11 years. Kathy was with KBD in 1998-2000, and just recently returned to join the KBD team in May, 2006. Over the years, Kathy's favorite part of kitchen design has been the clients she has worked with. It is her goal to make the whole process enjoyable, treat each customer with respect and honesty, and utilize her experience and design skills to give her clients the kitchen they've always wanted and will enjoy for years to come.
